Hamilton's rubbish and recycling collection rule changes We have approved changes to the rules around rubbish and recycling in Hamilton to align with our Waste Management and Minimisation Bylaw 2019. The new rules apply from Monday 31 August 2020. No container may: Be placed in a public place for collection more than 14 hours prior to the start of the collection period. Be left in a public place for more than 14 hours after the collection period ends. For Council-provided services, the maximum weight allowed in approved containers is: 120 litre rubbish bin - 40kg of refuse 240 litre recycling bin - 40kg of dry recyclable material Glass crate - 20kg of glass bottles or jars Food scraps bin - 15kg of organic material The rules apply to the collection, transportation, or disposal of waste from any Hamilton property.
